Rio Bravo è la destinazione di un quartetto di avventurieri e disperati: una ballerina di saloon che va a seppellirvi il figlioletto morto in una sparatoria, un pistolero, un ex sergente che vuole vendicarsi dell'uomo che lo scotennò qualche anno prima e un vecchio ubriacone che si rivelerà come lo scotennatore.
