Il ladro (1956)
Manny Ballyster è un povero suonatore di contrabbasso che a stento riesce a mantenere la sua famiglia. Ciononostante è soddisfatto della sua vita dedicata tutta al lavoro e ai suoi affetti. Una sera, rientrando a casa, trova ancora sveglia la moglie Rosa, che a causa di un forte mal di denti non è riuscita ad addormentarsi. Il dentista che viene chiamato a visitarla dichiara che per la cura servono trecento dollari, una cifra altissima per Manny che si trova nella condizione di dover chiedere un prestito. La mattina seguente si reca così presso l'agenzia di una Compagnia d'Assicurazione e qui succede l'imprevedibile: alcune impiegate credono di riconoscere in lui il delinquente che qualche giorno prima aveva commesso una rapina nell'agenzia. Da quel momento tutto sembra mettersi contro il povero suonatore finchè?...
