Luke è un asso del rodeo nel Nord Carolina, ma ha subìto una battuta d'arresto quando Rango, un toro scatenato, l'ha disarcionato con violenza. Il suo sogno è quello di diventare il numero uno del campionato ma dovrà risalire la classifica e superare la paura di confrontarsi di nuovo con Rango. Sophia è una studentessa di arte moderna che viene dal New Jersey e sta per partire per uno stage presso una prestigiosa galleria di Manhattan. Luke e Sophia appartengono a due mondi apparentemente lontani e invece destinati ad incontrarsi: quando questo succede la passione sembra superare tutte le differenze. Ma non è facile conciliare due universi così diversi: ci vorrà l'intervento di Ira, un anziano con una grande storia d'amore alle spalle, per spiegare loro il significato del sacrificio l'uno per il bene dell'altra.
