L'ex pompiere Dutch Fallon (Randolph Mantooth) e pochi funzionari dei servizi segreti che hanno raccolto la sua testimonianza sono le uniche persone al mondo a sapere che sulla Terra sono precipitate e possono ancora precipitare misteriose entità, simili a minuscole fiammelle dotate di vita propria, sprigionate da imponenti eruzioni solari. Dutch ne conosce la forza distruttiva poiché una di esse, negli anni '60, ha ucciso in maniera atroce la sua ragazza, e quando la "creatura" riappare scatenando un indomabile incendio, tenta di persuadere l'incredulo pompiere Jake Relm (Nicholas Brendon) ad aiutarlo a combattere il mostro di fuoco. L'agente federale Cooke (Robert Beltran), al contrario, pur essendo perfettamente a conoscenza dell'accaduto, fa di tutto per mettere a tacere Dutch e Jake coinvolgendo nel suo piano l'agente della "National Fire Agency" Christina Andrews (Sandrine Holt).....
