Tess Thorne, una famosa e venerata scrittrice di gialli e thriller, affronta un lungo viaggio verso casa dopo un tour promozionale. Mentre guida su un tratto di strada solitaria del New England, una foratura la blocca in mezzo al nulla dove viene soccorsa da uno sconosciuto, che però si rivela presto essere un serial killer. Riuscita a scampare da morte certa, una sempre più sconvolta Tess sarà determinata a ritrovare l'uomo e a cercar vendetta.
