Prescott, 7 anni, petulante e angelico bimbo ricco - figlio di un diplomatico americano, in Francia per negoziare i termini di pace alla fine della I Guerra Mondiale - cresce con una devota e disturbata madre e un padre dalla morsa autoritaria.
