L'uomo che venne dal Nord (1971)
Murphy è un caporale irlandese, unico sopravvissuto di una nave inglese affondata da un sommergibile tedesco in acque venezuelane. Salvato dagli indigeni, ostinatamente, Murphy cerca la vendetta. Il primo tentativo fallisce e provoca, come conseguenza, una rappresaglia micidiale dei nazisti sulla popolazione civile. Murphy non disarma finché riuscirà nel suo intento, benché la guerra sia intanto finita. L'idea della guerra personale come ossessione che si placa solo a vendetta ottenuta non è particolarmente originale. Yates gioca facile sul carattere esotico dell'ambientazione e sull'indubbio carisma di Peter O'Toole, che però gigioneggia un po'.
