Il passato infesta il presente e mette a repentaglio il futuro della famiglia Jordan, un mondo in cui ci sono fantasmi che si aggirano e incombono, affliggono e confortano ognuno.dei suoi appartenenti. La questione del perdono e dei suoi limiti si fa strada attraverso una serie di storie d'amore, offrendo chiarezza e, forse, alternative alle comodità del dimenticare.
