In vacanza alle Bahamas con la famiglia, il poliziotto newyorkese Mike Santini si imbatte casualmente in Eddie Meyers, un fuorilegge d'alto bordo coinvolto nel riciclaggio di denaro sporco, e si mette alle sue costole. Il tutore dell'ordine si sorprende della strana disponibilità dimostrata dall'equivoco individuo, che accetta di riferire ciò che sa a patto che sia proprio Santini - e lui solo - a condurre l'interrogatorio in un luogo sicuro, una volta tornati in patria. Di qui in poi, Meyers porrà in atto una sorta di prolungata strategia di seduzione, utilizzando ogni risorsa (soldi, donne, costosissimi regali) per corrompere il suo "custode".
