Tragico segreto (1946)
Alan Garroway è un uomo che, dopo aver depositato il brevetto del pilota automatico, è diventato molto ricco e famoso ma non è felice. Quello che gli altri non sanno è che l'invenzione non è sua ma se ne è impossessato grazie all'assassinio del vero inventore commesso dopo aver allontanato suo fratello Michael. Questo è il motivo per cui, nonostante la ricchezza, ha perso la pace e la possibilità di essere felice. Quando conosce Ann, la sposa sperando di poter cominciare con lei una nuova vita. La donna, però, ben presto si accorge che in suo marito c'è qualcosa che non va e che lui le nasconde qualcosa. Non credendolo capace di fare nulla di male cerca di scoprire la verità interrogando il misterioso Michael. Per paura che il suo segreto venga scoperto, a quel punto Alan decide di uccidere anche Ann, che ormai ha smesso di amarlo, ma non ha fatto i conti con la sorte.
