Il Rito (2011)
Il giovane Michael Kovak aiuta il padre nell’impresa funebre di famiglia. Per fuggire Michael entra in seminario, pur senza una vera vocazione. Dopo quattro anni, alla vigilia dell’ordinazione, Michael vorrebbe lasciare: sente che la sua fede non è solida. Scrive un’e-mail, ma prima di spedirla qualcosa lo scuote: una ragazza, vittima morente di un incidente stradale, gli chiede la benedizione e lui gliela impartisce. Michael riceve una proposta: partecipare a un corso di esorcismo a Roma nell’ambito di un programma del Vaticano. Michael accetta, anche per la prospettiva di passare due mesi a Roma, presentata come una città ancor più caotica di quanto non sia, per enfatizzare il contrasto con la quiete dei palazzi vaticani. L’approccio con il corso non è dei migliori: Michael non crede alla realtà degli esorcismi. Padre Xavier, che tiene il corso, lo indirizza allora all’esperto esorcista Padre Lucas. E con Padre Lucas, Michael comincia a dover rivedere le proprie convinzioni.
