Il francese Abel Tiffauges è un uomo ingenuo che vive una vita semplice lavorando come meccanico. Accusato ingiustamente di essere un pedofilo, viene arruolato come soldato allo scoppio della seconda guerra mondiale, ma viene presto catturato e portato nel cuore della Germania nazista.
