Al parte per la guerra chiedendo all'amata Ruth di attenderlo. Nel Pacifico meridionale, l'uomo viene accecato da una granata in battaglia. Non volendo che la fidanzata resti legata ad un uomo indifeso, rompe il fidanzamento.
