Henry Ross, rinomato chef con la passione per il giallo, si ritrova a collaborare nuovamente con la detective Maggie Price quando un raro e prezioso volume, il "Libro dello Chef" di un leggendario ristorante di San Francisco, riemerge dal nulla. Al libro è nella fattispecie connesso l'omicidio di un antiquario senza scrupoli su cui i due dovranno fare luce.
