Il detective Scott Turner sta indagando sull'assassinio di un uomo avvenuto nei pressi del porto. L'unico testimone sembra essere il grosso cane dell'uomo, Hooch, di cui Scott deve prendersi cura. La convivenza con l'animale all'inizio si rivela piuttosto complicata, ma riusciranno a trovare la giusta intesa e alla fine Hooch aiuterà Scott a risolvere il caso.
