Siamo negli anni Venti. Una legge impedisce a Nicky di passare il confine con la sua amichetta Freddie. Essendo in attesa di divorzio, la fa sposare a Oscar. Nicky e Oscar, in realtà, vogliono eliminarla per spartirsi la ricca eredità, ma la loro goffaggine è pari soltanto all'ingenuità di Freddie.
