Le divorce - Americane a Parigi (2003)
Isabel Walker, vivace "girl" californiana, si reca a Parigi in visita alla sorella, Roxanne, incinta e, quasi, abbandonata dal marito francese. Ma presto anche Isabel si vedrà costretta a cedere al fascino europeo, sedotta dal "diplomatico" e "obsoleto" cognato della sorella. James Ivory, in tempi di relazioni non troppo felici e distese tra America e Francia, costruisce, a partire dall'omonimo romanzo della scrittrice americana, di adozione francese, Diane Johnson, la psicopatologia quotidiana di due famiglie, di due culture di nuovo a confronto come nelle già "inibite" lacrime della "figlia di un soldato". Se è possibile, questa volta, l'esemplificazione antropologica è peggiore della prima, governata com'è da luoghi comuni che rivelano uno stato delle cose, d'amore,drammatico e volgare.
