All'inizio del 1916 la Prima Guerra Mondiale aveva seminato distruzione e morte in tutta l'Europa. Nonostante gli aeroplani fossero stati inventati solo di recente, vennero presto adattati per diventare delle macchine da guerra. Giovani aquile racconta la vicenda di un gruppo di ragazzi americani che, ancor prima che gli Stati Uniti si interessassero al conflitto, decisero di unirsi alla Squadriglia Lafayette come volontari per combattere il nemico divenendo i primi piloti di aerei da caccia della storia.
