Catherine Rosalind Russell (4 giugno 1907 – 28 novembre 1976) è stata un'attrice americana di teatro e cinema, forse soprattutto nota per il ruolo di giornalista dal parlare veloce nella commedia screwball di Howard Hawks His Girl Friday, oltre che per il ruolo di Mame Dennis nel film Auntie Mame. Ha vinto tutti e 5 i Golden Globe per cui è stata nominata, ed è rimasta a pari merito con Meryl Streep per vittorie fino al 2007, quando Streep ha ricevuto un sesto posto. Russell vinse un Tony Award nel 1953 come Miglior Interpretazione di Attrice in un Musical per la sua interpretazione di Ruth nello spettacolo di Broadway Wonderful Town (un musical basato sul film My Sister Eileen, in cui recitò anche lei). Russell era nota per interpretare ruoli caratteristiche, donne eccezionalmente ricche e dignitose e da femminili. Ha avuto una carriera ampia dagli anni '30 agli anni '70 e attribuisce la sua lunga carriera al fatto che, pur interpretando solitamente ruoli eleganti e glamour, non è mai diventata un simbolo sessuale, non essendo famosa per il suo aspetto.
