Elizabeth McGovern (nata il 18 luglio 1961) è un'attrice americana di cinema, televisione e teatro. Nel 1980, mentre studiava alla Juilliard, alla McGovern fu offerto un ruolo nel suo primo film, Ordinary People, in cui interpretava la fidanzata del ragazzo in difficoltà Timothy Hutton. L'anno successivo completò la sua formazione come attrice all'American Conservatory Theatre e alla Juilliard School, iniziando a recitare in opere teatrali, prima Off-Broadway e successivamente in teatri famosi. Nel 1981 ha ottenuto una nomination all'Oscar come miglior attrice non protagonista per il ruolo di Evelyn Nesbit nel film Ragtime. Nel 1984 ha recitato nell'epopea gangster di Sergio Leone, Once Upon a Time in America, nel ruolo di Deborah Gelly, l'interesse romantico di Robert De Niro. Nel 1989 interpretò la fidanzata di Mickey Rourke in Johnny Handsome, diretto da Walter Hill, e nello stesso anno apparve come una lesbica ribelle nel thriller The Handmaid's Tale di Volker Schlöndorff.
