Elizabeth McGovern (nata il 18 luglio 1961) è un'attrice statunitense di cinema, televisione e teatro. Nel 1980, mentre studiava alla Juilliard School, ha esordito sul grande schermo nel film premio Oscar Gente comune di Robert Redford. Dopo aver completato la sua formazione artistica, si è affermata rapidamente sia a teatro che al cinema, ottenendo già nel 1981 una nomination all'Oscar come miglior attrice non protagonista per l'interpretazione di Evelyn Nesbit in Ragtime di Miloš Forman. Negli anni Ottanta ha preso parte a progetti di grande rilievo, tra cui spicca il capolavoro di Sergio Leone C'era una volta in America (1984), nel ruolo di Deborah, l'amore mai dimenticato del protagonista interpretato da Robert De Niro. Ha successivamente recitato al fianco di Mickey Rourke in Johnny il bello (1989) e nell'adattamento cinematografico de Il racconto dell'ancella (1990) diretto da Volker Schlöndorff. In epoca più recente, ha conquistato una straordinaria popolarità internazionale grazie al ruolo di Cora Crawley, Contessa di Grantham, nella pluripremiata serie televisiva Downton Abbey (2010-2015) e nei relativi adattamenti cinematografici.
