Piper Laurie, nata Rosetta Jacobs il 22 gennaio 1932 a Detroit, Michigan, e morta il 14 ottobre 2023 a Los Angeles, è stata un'attrice statunitense. Dopo aver iniziato la carriera ancora giovanissima, si affermò negli anni Cinquanta con diversi ruoli cinematografici, diventando una delle interpreti più apprezzate della sua generazione. Tra i suoi film più celebri figurano Lo spaccone (1961), accanto a Paul Newman, Carrie – Lo sguardo di Satana (1976), nel quale interpreta la fanatica Margaret White, e Figli di un dio minore (1986). Per questi tre film ricevette altrettante candidature all'Oscar come miglior attrice non protagonista. Laurie lavorò anche intensamente in televisione, ottenendo un Primetime Emmy Award e una candidatura al Golden Globe per la sua interpretazione nella produzione televisiva originale di Giorni di vino e rose. Nel corso della carriera partecipò inoltre a numerose serie televisive, tra cui Twin Peaks, dove interpretò la misteriosa Catherine Martell, uno dei suoi ruoli più celebri. Nel corso della sua lunga carriera ricevette numerosi riconoscimenti, tra cui un Golden Globe e un Primetime Emmy Award, oltre alle tre candidature agli Oscar e a una candidatura al BAFTA. Con oltre sei decenni di attività, Piper Laurie ha lasciato un segno importante sia nel cinema che nella televisione americana.
