Janet Leigh (nata il 6 luglio 1927 a Merced, in California, e morta il 3 ottobre 2004 a Beverly Hills, in California) è stata un'attrice statunitense, divenuta una delle interpreti più celebri del cinema americano tra gli anni Quaranta e Sessanta. Dopo aver attirato l'attenzione del produttore Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer all'inizio della sua carriera, debuttò sul grande schermo nel 1947 con il film The Romance of Rosy Ridge. Negli anni successivi si affermò rapidamente come una delle giovani attrici più richieste di Hollywood, lavorando in produzioni di generi diversi, dalla commedia al dramma, dal musical al thriller. Tra le sue interpretazioni più ricordate figurano quelle in Piccole donne (1949), Scaramouche (1952), Il principe ladro (1955), Orson Welles' Touch of Evil (1958) e soprattutto Psyco (1960) di Alfred Hitchcock, nel quale interpretò Marion Crane. Il ruolo in Psyco le valse il Golden Globe come miglior attrice non protagonista e una candidatura all'Oscar nella stessa categoria, diventando una delle interpretazioni più iconiche della storia del cinema. Nel corso della sua carriera continuò a lavorare sia al cinema sia in televisione, alternando produzioni hollywoodiane a numerosi progetti televisivi. Negli anni successivi apparve anche in film come Fog (1980) di John Carpenter e Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), tornando così a confrontarsi con il genere horror che aveva contribuito a rendere celebre la sua carriera. Janet Leigh morì nel 2004 all'età di 77 anni, lasciando un'importante eredità nel cinema statunitense e venendo ricordata soprattutto per la sua lunga carriera e per il ruolo di Marion Crane in Psyco.
