Grace Is Gone (2007)
Stanley Phillips (John Cusack) had zijn hele leven uitgestippeld. Hij zou zijn land dienen en was voorbestemd voor een militaire carrière. Die droom kwam abrupt tot een einde wanneer bleek dat zijn ogen niet goed genoeg waren. Nu staat hij achter de toonbank in een buurtwinkel, terwijl zijn vrouw Grace als sergeant vecht in Irak. Tijdens haar afwezigheid is Stanley belast met de opvoeding van hun twee dochters, de 8- jarige Dawn en de 12- jarige Heidi. Hij heeft het echter moeilijk om een affectieve relatie met hen op te bouwen en de meisjes missen hun moeder verschrikkelijk. Plots slaat het noodlot toe: Grace komt om bij een aanslag. Stanley besluit voorlopig niets tegen de meisjes te zeggen en beslist spontaan om op een 'road trip' te vertrekken.
