De nieuwe officier dr. Kane arriveert in het militair psychische hospitaal waar hij komt te werken. Hij doet zijn uiterste best zijn patiënten te genezen, maar is zelf hard op weg krankzinnig te worden. Het helpt ook al niet dat het hospitaal in een oud, duister kasteel is gehuisvest dat de stuipen op het lijf jaagt.
