Lorenzo's Oil (1992)
In september 1983 verhuizen Michaela en Augusto Odone met hun vijfjarig zoontje Lorenzo van de Comoren naar Washington. Voor Lorenzo verloopt de aanpassing moeizaam en hij raakt op school betrokken bij verschillende relletjes. Omdat de incidenten elkaar in een snel tempo opvolgen en het gedrag van Lorenzo almaar meer gestoord wordt, raadpleegt het echtpaar Odone verschillende artsen. Geen van de geconsulteerde dokters weet wat er aan de hand is met de jongen. Pas in 1984 velt dokter Judalon het verdict: Lorenzo heeft de zeldzame en mysterieuze ziekte ALD, een afwijking van het metabolisme waardoor de hersenen afsterven. Een therapie is er niet en de ontwikkeling is niet te stuiten. Lorenzo heeft nog maar twee jaar te leven...
