The Crazy World of Julius Vrooder (1974)
Na thuiskomst uit de oorlog verblijft Vietnamveteraan Julius Vrooder in een veteranenziekenhuis, waar hij vaag is gediagnosticeerd als 'psychiatrisch gehandicapt'. Vrooder neemt het nieuws op met een air van aanvankelijk luchtige opstandigheid, ontsnapt en slaat zijn kamp op onder een snelweg, waar hij een door paranoia gedreven boobytrap bunker voor zichzelf bouwt. Vrooder wordt verliefd op de niet zo slimme verpleegster Zanni en is al snel van plan om met haar weg te lopen naar een afgelegen Canadese buitenpost.
