Night and the City (1992)
Robert DeNiro en Jessica Lange raken als onmogelijk koppel - advocaat aan lager wal en ordinair barmeisje - verwikkeld in een even enervende als onvermijdelijke negatieve spiraal. De advocaat heeft zojuist een erchtszaak verloren van een bekende organisator van bokswedstrijden en denkt hem op zijn eigen terrein terug te kunnen pakken. De jurist is zeer bedreven in liegen en bedriegen, maar van de vuistvechters heeft hij geen verstand. Toch weet hij enkele onschuldige en onnozele bekenden als het barmeisje voor zijn karretje te spannen. Hij weet zelfs de broer van zijn grootste vijand te strikken. Maar zijn relatie met de kroegtijger zorgt voor de meest onmogelijke ontwikkelingen.
