In 1951 werd Pedro Carmichael, een briljante scenarioschrijver, in New Orleans ingehuurd door het radiostation 'La Voix de La Nouvelle-Orleans'. Zijn soap Kings of the Garden District was een ongekend succes en zorgde zo voor een stijging van de luistercijfers op de radio. Als scherp waarnemer voedt hij de plot van zijn soapserie met de privélevens van zijn medewerkers, wat er niet voor zorgt dat er een schandaal uitbreekt.
