Het is de 21ste eeuw. Johnny Mnemonic is een hightech koerier, op de vlucht met gestolen data, welke met chips in zijn hersenen zijn geïmplementeerd. Teveel aan data op deze chips kan echter wel dodelijk zijn...De baas van een misdaadorganisatie wil de waardevolle gegevens die Johnny bij zich draagt, hebben. Met een premiejager, een leger van professionele killers en een dodelijke hoeveelheid data moet Johnny rennen voor zijn leven.
