Daniel Mays werd op 31 maart 1978 geboren in Epping, Essex, Engeland als Daniel Alan Mays. Hij is een acteur, bekend van The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (2011), The Bank Job (2008) en Atonement (2007). Hij speelde vijf toneelstukken in het Royal Court Theatre in Londen, waaronder twee in het 50-jarig jubileumjaar van het theater in delen die speciaal voor hem waren geschreven. Hij won de prijs voor beste acteur op het Palmare Television Festival 2003 voor zijn optreden in de keiharde geïmproviseerde BBC-film Rehab. Hij heeft twee films gemaakt met de veelgeprezen Britse regisseur Mike Leigh.
