Charlize Theron (/ʃɑːrˈliːz ˈθɛrən/ shar-LEEZ THERR-ən; Afrikaans: [ʃarˈlis ˈtrɔn]; geboren 7 augustus 1975) is een Zuid-Afrikaanse en Amerikaanse actrice en producente. Ze is een van de bestbetaalde actrices ter wereld en heeft diverse prijzen gewonnen, waaronder een Academy Award en een Golden Globe Award. In 2016 werd ze door Time uitgeroepen tot een van de 100 meest invloedrijke mensen ter wereld. Theron verwierf internationale bekendheid in de jaren 90 door de hoofdrollen te spelen in de Hollywoodfilms The Devil's Advocate (1997), Mighty Joe Young (1998) en The Cider House Rules (1999). Ze oogstte veel lof voor haar vertolking van seriemoordenares Aileen Wuornos in Monster (2003), waarvoor ze de Zilveren Beer en de Oscar voor Beste Actrice won. Daarmee werd ze de eerste Zuid-Afrikaanse actrice die een Oscar won. Ze ontving nog een Oscarnominatie voor haar rol als seksueel misbruikte vrouw die gerechtigheid zoekt in het drama North Country (2005). Ze werd geprezen voor haar vertolking van getroubleerde vrouwen in Jason Reitmans komediedrama's Young Adult (2011) en Tully (2018) en voor haar rol als Megyn Kelly in het biografische drama Bombshell (2019), waarvoor ze haar derde Oscarnominatie ontving. Sinds begin jaren 2000 heeft Theron zich ook in de filmproductie begeven met haar bedrijf Denver and Delilah Productions.
