Спустя два года после трагической гибели жены талантливый журналист Джон Клайн оказывается в маленьком городке в Западной Вирджинии. Он не знает, как он попал сюда и что он здесь делает, но удивительные рассказы местных жителей, видевших странное существо, похожее на гигантского человека-мотылька, вынуждают его начать собственное расследование, которое дает совершенно неожиданные результаты: страшное создание с огненными глазами, внезапно являющееся людям в сумраке ночи, всегда становится предвестником чудовищных трагедий. Оставляя людям свои жуткие пророчества, оно, кажется, хочет спасти их, но Клайн должен во что бы то ни стало выяснить истинные цели неуловимого призрака, ведь незадолго до своей смерти его жена тоже видела призрачную фигуру ужасного человека-мотылька…
