Американский актер, родом из Армении. Аким Тамиров родился в Баку, с девятнадцати лет учился в Москве в школе при Художественном театре, после которой некоторое время был актером МХТ. В 1923 году, во время гастролей театра в США, остался там. Там он начал играть в труппе Балиева «Летучая Мышь», где познакомился с актрисой Тамарой Шейн, которая впоследствии стала его женой. Также в США актер открывал Академию сценического грима и подрабатывал таксистом. После усиленного изучения английского языка, Аким Тамирофф начал играть в кино. После небольшой роли в фильме «Королева Кристина» 1933 года, он обратил на себя внимание продюсеров и режиссеров. В 1936 году Тамирофф впервые был выдвинут на кинопремию «Оскар» и заключил семилетний контракт со студией Paramount. За время своей карьеры снимался в фильмах «Юнион Пасифик», «По ком звонит колокол», «Одиннадцать друзей Оушена», «Алфавиль» и других. За сорок лет работы в Голливуде он снялся в порядка 140 фильмах, где играл кого угодно, но только не американцев, так как этого не позволял акцент. Аким Тамирофф умер в Калифорнии от рака в 1972 году.
