Американская балерина и актриса. Настоящее имя — Тула Эллис Финкли. В 8 лет Сид Черисс начала заниматься балетом. Семья очень поощряла это занятие и создавала все условия для девочки. Вскоре они переехали в Голливуд, и Сид начала учиться в студии Нико Чарисса в Лос-Анджелесе. В 1937 году поступила в труппу «Русского балета Монте-Карло», гастролировала по США под русскими псевдонимами. В 1939 году вышла замуж за своего педагога, Нико Чарисса. В 1941 году начала сниматься в кино, сначала в ролях танцовщиц, преимущественно — эпизодических. Затем сыграла мать Галины Улановой в фильме «Миссия в Москву». В 1946 году заключила контракт со студией MGM. Приобрела огромную популярность после выхода картины «Поющие под дождем». В 1953 году сыграла в паре с самим Фредом Астером в ленте «Театральный фургон». За фильм «Шелковые чулки» была номинирована на премию «Золотой глобус». Всю жизнь актриса мечтала играть на Бродвее. Но мечта сбылась только в 71 год. Ее пригласили в состав мюзикла «Гранд-отель». В 1948 году заключила второй брак, с актером Тони Мартином. С ним они прожили более 60 лет. Вплоть до самой смерти. Актриса умерла от сердечной недостаточности в 2008 году.
