Der junge Fernsehreporter Stephen Rojack hat sich als Enthüllungsjournalist in New York einen Namen gemacht. Als er nach einem Streit seine Frau Deborah tötet, beginnt für ihn ein Alptraum: Seine Geliebte verlässt ihn, die Polizei jagt ihn, und die Unterwelt will sich für Rojacks Enthüllungen rächen.
