William Conrad (geb. John William Cann Jr.) war ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler, Produzent und Regisseur, dessen Unterhaltungskarriere sich über fünf Jahrzehnte in Radio, Film und Fernsehen erstreckte. Als Radioautor und Schauspieler zog er nach seinem Dienst als Kampfpilot im Zweiten Weltkrieg nach Hollywood und spielte eine Reihe von Charakterrollen in Filmen, beginnend mit dem Film Noir „The Killers“ (1946). Er verkörperte die Rolle des Marshal Matt Dillon in der Radioserie „Rauchende Colts“ (1952–1961) und sprach die Fernsehabenteuer „Rocky und Bullwinkle“ (1959–1964), „Dudley Do – Right of the Mounties“ (1959–1964), „Auf der Flucht“ (1963–1967) und „Hoppity Hooper“ (1964–1967). Da er in den 1950er Jahren weniger Rollen auf der Leinwand fand, wechselte er in den 1960er Jahren vom Schauspieler zum Produzenten und Regisseur mit Fernseharbeiten, Erzählungen und einer Reihe von Warner Bros.-Filmen. Conrad wurde als Detektiv in den Fernsehserien Cannon (1971–1976) und Nero Wolfe (1981) sowie als Bezirksstaatsanwalt Jason Lochinvar McCabe in dem Rechtsdrama Fatman – Der Dicke und ich (später auf Sat.1: Jake & McCabe – Durch dick und dünn) (1987–1992) berühmt.
