Winter's Tale (2014)
Peter Lake ist ein Kleingauner in einem viktorianischen Manhattan, der immer wieder in Schwierigkeiten gerät, obwohl er ein gutes Herz hat. Sein größter Widersacher ist der Gangsterboss Pearly Soames, der noch eine Rechnung mit ihm offen hat und ihm deshalb nach dem Leben trachtet. In Gestalt eines mysteriösen weißen Pferdes erhält Peter einen ungewöhnlichen Schutzengel, der ihm fortan zur Seite steht. Während eines Einbruchs in eine Villa lernt Peter die Tochter des Eigentümers Isaac Penn kennen und verliebt sich sogleich in die offene und herzliche Beverly. Die junge Frau leidet an Schwindsucht, ist aber davon überzeugt, dass der Tod nicht das Ende sein kann. Dennoch möchte sie nicht aus dem Leben scheiden, ohne vorher die Liebe kennen gelernt zu haben…
