Gottes Werk & Teufels Beitrag (1999)
USA in den 30er Jahren. Der warmherzige Dr. Wilbur Larch leitet in St. Cloud’s ein Waisenhaus. Zu dem Waisenkind Homer Wells entwickelt der kinderlose Arzt allmählich eine tiefgehende Vater-Sohn-Beziehung. Larch bringt ihm alles Wissenswerte über die Medizin bei. Doch die ausgeprägte Persönlichkeit des Arztes stellt hohe Ansprüche an den Jungen. Und nun, da er erwachsen wird, zweifelt er langsam an Larchs Methoden. Und so beschließt Homer fortzugehen, um die Bahnen seines Lebens selbst zu bestimmen.
