Der Fall Mona (2000)
Mona Dearly ist die meistgehasste Person in dem 460-Seelen-Dorf Verplanck. So bricht die Gemeinde auch nicht in Trauer aus, als sie mit ihrem Wagen in den Fluss stürzt und dabei zu Tode kommt. Als sich herausstellt, dass es sich wahrscheinlich um Mord handelt, steht Polizeichef Wyatt Rash vor einem großen Problem: Nahezu jeder Einwohner der Stadt hatte ein Motiv, Mona umzubringen. Sowohl ihre von ihr schikanierte Familie, bestehend aus Ehemann Phil und Sohn Jeff, als auch Kellnerin Rona, die mit Phil Dearly eine Affäre hat; Bobby Calzone, der mit dem völlig unfähigen Jeff gemeinsam einen Gartenservice betreibt; sogar Wyatts Tochter Ellen, Bobbys Verlobte, die findet, dass die Dearlys Bobby bloß ausnutzen. Da der Verdächtigenkreis noch um einiges größer ist, tappt Wyatt völlig im Dunkeln.
