Es könnte der Plan zum perfekten Verbrechen sein: Der abgebrannte Autoverkäufer Jerry Lundegaard engagiert zwei Galgenvögel, die seine Ehefrau entführen und vom ebenso reichen wie geizigen Schwiegervater ein Lösegeld erpressen sollen.
