The Favourite - Intrigen und Irrsinn (2018)
England, 18. Jahrhundert: Das Land macht politisch eine schwierige Zeit durch, denn es befindet sich im Krieg mit Frankreich und zudem ist die amtierende Königin Anne durch Krankheit geschwächt und damit nicht in der Lage die Nation zu regieren. An ihrer Stelle kümmert sich ihre Vertraute Lady Sarah um die Regierungsangelegenheiten und versorgt zugleich die Königin, die als äußerst schwieriger Mensch, der oft zu Wutausbrüchen neigt, gilt. Verstärkung am Hof gibt es bald in Form eines neuen Dienstmädchens, bei der es sich um Sarahs Cousine Abigail handelt, die kürzlich ihren Adelstitel verloren hat und nun mit niederen Arbeiten am Hof betraut wird. Doch dann wird Queen Anne auf die charmante und durchaus intelligente junge Frau aufmerksam, die der Königin mit viel Respekt und vor allem mit Schmeicheleien entgegentritt. Die Annährungen stoßen Sarah übel auf, da diese befürchtet durch die steigende Gunst ihrer Cousine an politischem Einfluss zu verlieren.
