Verborgenes Feuer (1998)
Im Jahr 1838 willigt die reizende Gouvernante Elisabeth ein, ein Kind für einen anonymen englischen Landbesitzer auszutragen, der im Gegenzug die Schulden ihres Vaters begleichen soll. Nach der Geburt gibt sie das Kind, wie vereinbart, zur Adoption frei. Sieben Jahre später wird sie als Gouvernante für ein Mädchen auf einem abgelegenen Landgut in Sussex eingestellt. Der Vater des Mädchens, Charles Godwin, entpuppt sich als der anonyme Landbesitzer. So muss Elisabeth nun auch die Gouvernante ihrer eigenen Tochter sein und kann das Geheimnis ihrer Verbindung zu der kleinen Louisa nicht preisgeben.
