Davor und danach (1996)
Carolyn und Ben Ryan führen mit ihren beiden Kindern ein harmonisches Familienleben in einer idyllischen Kleinstadt. Doch dies ändert sich schlagartig, als die Freundin ihres Sohnes Jacob tot aufgefunden wird und Jacob plötzlich spurlos verschwindet. Für die Einwohner gibt es keinen Zweifel daran, dass er der Mörder ist. Als Vater Ben Ryan belastendes Beweismaterial findet und vernichtet, kommen auch den Eltern ernsthafte Zweifel an der Unschuld ihres Kindes. Die Lage spitzt sich dramatisch zu, als Jacob gefunden und verhaftet wird. Er war der letzte, der die Tote lebend gesehen hat, aber er schweigt. Doch Ben und Carolyn kämpfen mit allen Mitteln für ihren Sohn - gegen eine Stadt, die Jacob bereits verurteilt hat.
