Auf einer unbewohnten Insel im Norden Schottlands treten die Leuchtturmwärter Thomas, James und Donald wie gewohnt ihre sechswöchige Schicht an. Doch ihre übliche Routine wird durchbrochen, als sie auf einen verwundeten Schiffbrüchigen treffen, der eine Kiste Gold bei sich hat. Im Kampf mit den Leuchtturmwärtern kommt der Mann ums Leben. Doch woher stammt der gefundene Schatz? Als die drei Wächter in der Ferne ein Boot entdecken, das die Antwort liefern könnte, tobt unter ihnen längst ein Überlebenskampf, denn die Gier nach Gold hat Loyalität und Freundschaft bereits verdrängt …
