Mank (2020)
1940 verkriecht sich Herman J. Mankiewicz auf einer abgelegenen Ranch in der Mojave Wüste. Der nach einem Unfall auf Krücken angewiesene, schwer alkoholkranke Autor soll dort für das Regie-Debüt des neuen Hollywood-Wunderkinds Orson Welles in nur 60 Tagen das Skript schreiben – unterstützt von der britischen Schreibkraft Rita und der deutschen Krankenschwester Freda. In dem Film geht es um einen reichen Zeitungsmagnaten, einen Menschen wie William Randolph Hearst, den Mankiewicz 1930 kennenlernte, mit dem er sich anfreundete und schließlich nach turbulenten Jahren entzweite. So wird „Citizen Kane“ zur ganz persönlichen Abrechnung mit Hearst ... aber auch mit einem anti-liberalen Hollywood.
