Die Eigentümerin eines großen Strandhauses, Lynn Markham (Joan Crawford), bezieht das Objekt selbst, nachdem ihre Mieterin durch einen mysteriösen Unfall ums Leben kam. Sie lernt den Gigolo Drummy Hall (Jeff Chandler) kennen, der bei einem alten Ehepaar wohnt. Während Lynn und Drummy sich ineinander verlieben, kommt die wohlhabende Witwe allmählich hinter das Geheimnis der verstorbenen Mieterin.
