Ein tragisches Unglück lässt die Familie Deetz wieder eng zusammenrücken. Aus allen Ecken des Landes kommen sie wieder zusammen in Winter River. Und als ob das nicht schon schwer genug wäre: Lydia ist Beetlejuice bis heute nicht losgeworden, immer wieder wird sie von ihm heimgesucht. Auch die Beziehung zu ihrer Tochter Astrid ist anstrengend – wie das mit Teenagerinnen eben manchmal so ist. Doch Astrid tut mehr, als nur für pubertäre Unruhe zu sorgen, als sie auf dem Dachboden des Familienheims einen geheimnisvollen Nachbau von Winter River entdeckt, durch das sie ohne böse Absicht ein Tor zur von den Toten bevölkerten Unterwelt öffnet. In beiden Welten bricht dadurch zunehmend Chaos aus. Aber noch hat niemand dreimal hintereinander Beetlejuice gesagt. Aber das scheint auch nur noch eine Frage der Zeit zu sein…"
