Der Veteran Jack Starks leidet unter Amnesie und kehrt eines Tages nach Vermont, seiner Heimatstadt, zurück. Kaum dort angekommen, landet er in der Irrenanstalt, da er des Mordes angeklagt wird. Der zuständige Doktor verabreicht ihm jeden Abend Drogen, steckt ihn in eine Zwangsjacke und sperrt ihn in eine Leichenhalle. Durch diesen Prozess kann Starks in die Zukunft reisen und erfährt, dass er in naher Zukunft sterben wird. Da er nicht weiß, wer ihn wie tötet, muss er schnell herausfinden, wie er sein Schicksal ändern kann. In der Zukunft lernt er Jackie kennen, die ihm bei seiner Suche zur Seite steht. Während der Suche kommen sie sich selbst und der Wahrheit immer näher...
