Marlon Brando, Jr. (* 3. April 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska; † 1. Juli 2004 in Los Angeles, Kalifornien) war ein amerikanischer Schauspieler. Er gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Charakterdarsteller der Filmgeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Mit seinen Rollen in den Filmen Endstation Sehnsucht (1951) und Die Faust im Nacken (1954) verschaffte er der Schauspieltechnik des Method Acting weltweit Beachtung. Sowohl mit seiner Art der Darstellung als auch durch sein Auftreten in der Öffentlichkeit als gesellschaftlicher Außenseiter, den die Spielregeln Hollywoods nicht interessierten, beeinflusste er die jüngere Schauspielergeneration nachhaltig. Zwischen 1952 und 1990 war er siebenmal in der Kategorie Bester Hauptdarsteller und einmal als Bester Nebendarsteller für den Oscar nominiert, zweimal (1955 und 1973) gewann er ihn in der Kategorie Bester Hauptdarsteller. 1973 verweigerte er die Annahme seiner zweiten Auszeichnung für seine Titelrolle in Der Pate aus Protest gegen den bis zu dieser Zeit verbreiteten abwertenden Umgang der amerikanischen Filmindustrie mit den Indianern.
