Merian Caldwell Cooper (24. Oktober 1893 – 21. April 1973) war ein US-amerikanischer Pilot, Offizier der US-amerikanischen und polnischen Luftwaffe, Abenteurer, Drehbuchautor, Filmregisseur und -produzent. Während des Polnisch-Sowjetischen Krieges gründete Cooper die Kościuszko-Staffel und war zeitweise sowjetischer Kriegsgefangener. Er war ein bedeutender Filmproduzent und begann seine Filmkarriere im Rahmen des Explorers Club, wo er die Welt bereiste und seine Abenteuer dokumentierte. Er war Mitglied des Aufsichtsrats von Pan American Airways, doch seine Leidenschaft für den Film hatte stets Vorrang. Im Laufe seiner Filmkarriere arbeitete er für Unternehmen wie Pioneer Pictures, RKO Pictures und Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Er gilt außerdem als Miterfinder des Cinerama-Filmprojektionsverfahrens. Coopers bekanntester Film ist „King Kong“ aus dem Jahr 1933. 1952 wurde ihm ein Ehrenoscar für sein Lebenswerk verliehen, und 1960 erhielt er einen Stern auf dem Hollywood Walk of Fame.
